Our Nursery is called Fantasia and through our MAGIC learning, we aim to give your child a wide range of exciting learning experiences within a play-based curriculum and nurturing environment. Our friendly team are here to support your child through their first year of learning where the MAGIC begins.

Summer Term 2:
This term, our topic will be: What can I do with water?
Gross Motor – Using a ball to throw, catch, roll and kick to help children build coordination, balance, strength and hand-eye coordination.
Physical – Fine motor, developing scissors skills and holding a pencil between thumb and finger, with good control
EAD – Make imaginative and complex small worlds. Draw with increasing complexity and detail.
Writing – Write some or all of their name
UTW – Exploring journeys now and in the past. The children will discuss how and why people travel.
Maths – Compare quantities using language ‘more’, ‘fewer than’. Experiment with their own symbols and marks as well as numerals. Solve real world mathematical problems with numbers up to 5. Shape of the week: cube, triangular prism, cuboid, sphere. Talk about and explore 3D shapes using informal and mathematical language
Communication, Language and Literacy – The children will be exploring letters and developing vocabulary through 'Talk Though Stories', song and rhyme.

Homework
In Dalmatians, we really value parental support with homework, as it is an extension of children’s learning in school.
Your child will also be set weekly homework online via ClassDojo. This is usually set on Mondays to be completed by the following Monday. Don't forget to read with your child at home daily to join in the Reading Race.

The school day starts at 8.40am where the children will enter through the upper black gate. Dismissal is from the same gate at 3:10pm.
Each day, children will need to bring in the following:
- A spouted water bottle containing water;
- Reading book and diary;
- A red book bag;
- Appropriate coat and wellies if necessary.
PE
Nemos DW PE day is on Thursday.
Nemos EB PE day is on Wednesday.
Children need to come to school in their PE kit. This is a plain white T-shirt, a grey tracksuit and trainers.
Library
Nemos DW library day is a Monday.
Nemos EB library day is on Tuesday.
Please ensure that your child returns their library book on their library day in order to exchange it for a new book.

In Year one, the children will take the statutory phonics screening check in the summer term. Therefore, it is crucial that a consistent approach to the teaching of phonics is used. We deliver phonics using the Read Write Inc (RWI) phonics scheme.

Home Learning
Home learning is set each week by the class teacher on ClassDojo. This will consist of reading, phonics and maths and is checked each week. Reading at home is extremely important, and we would like all children to read at home at least 3 times per week.
Please don't forget that if you have any questions or queries, then please contact your class teacher via ClassDojo between 8.30am - 4.30pm Monday to Friday.

Summer Term 2:
For the Summer 2 half-term we will be enjoying the topic ‘Where would you prefer to live England or Kenya?’
In this topic, we will be inquisitive geographers. We will understand geographical similarities and differences through studying the human and physical geography of a small area of the United Kingdom, and of a small area in a contrasting non-European country. We will identify seasonal and daily weather patterns in the United Kingdom and the location of hot and cold areas of the world in relation to the Equator and the North and South Poles. To enhance our learning of geography, we will also use world maps, atlases and globes.
In Art, we will be using clay to create 3D houses. We will focus on shaping and decorating clay. We will create a pinch pot and design and make a clay tile with house features. This unit will help to emphasise children’s skills in working with clay and applying artistic techniques in a structured project.
In English, we will be completing lots of fun learning activities based on the stories of ‘Hansel and Gretal’ by Antony Brown and ‘The Enormous Crocodile’ by Roald Dahl. The children will be retelling and later innovating these stories. They will also use story maps and differentiated texts to help them write these narratives. We will be learning to plan our writing, breaking it up into beginning, middle and end, as well as correctly using their just do it rules! As well as going on a journey into the world of narratives, the children will also explore non-fiction texts and write a non-chronological report comparing Kenya and the United Kingdom. We will use the text ‘If You Were Me and Lived in…Kenya’ by Carole Roman to enhance our learning. We can't wait to see what the children achieve!
